The quarterfinals for Division 2-B (fifth and sixth grade) are complete, and in an ironic twist, the winners of today's games all had something in common; they are wore RED uniforms.
In the first game, Team O'Connor used a first quarter 16-0 run on their way to 28-12 victory over Team Stupin.
In the second game at East Elementary, Team Jensen used a 6-0 run in the second quarter to build a 14-5 advantage over Team Ford. Both teams battled hard in the second half, and Team Jensen prevailed 19-11.
Perhaps the best game of day was Team Howie/Burton versus Team Dolan. Team Dolan jumped out to a jump 6-0 in the first quarter before White got on the board. After a spirited second and third quarter Dolan led 16-10 entering the final eight minutes of action. Team Howie/Burton put on a furious rally shrinking the margin to just four 22-18 with two minutes remaining. Team Dolan went on a 6-0 run in the span of 75 seconds to put the game away. Final score; 28-18.
In the final game of the day, Team Gannon was just too much to handle for Team Hartwell. After a very competitive first half, Team Hartwell trailed Team Gannon by only six at 12-6. Unfortunately, for Team Hartwell, the basket on their offensive end of the floor has a lid nailed on it in the second half. Many of the shots, simply wouldn't drop. Team Gannon went on to the 22-6 victory.
Wednesday's semi-finals are now set.
At 7:00 PM, Team O'Connor will meet Team Jensen. In the nightcap, at 8:00 PM, Team Dolan will battle Team Gannon.
The semi-finals will take place at Hingham Middle School.
